Welcome to Your 21-Day Psychedelic Preparation Journey
We're excited to have you join us for this Digital Intervention for Psychedelic Preparedness (DIPP), a programme designed to help you get ready for your upcoming psilocybin session.
How it works
For the next three weeks, you'll complete daily practices and weekly activities that will guide and support you on this journey. Here's what to expect:
Daily Morning Practice (up to 60 minutes total)
Each morning, you'll follow three simple steps:
- Listening Session (10-45 minutes): Listen to an audio session.
- Mood Check-In (1 minute): Take a moment to reflect on how you're feeling.
- Journaling Exercise (5 minutes): Complete a short writing prompt to encourage insight and self-reflection.
Remember, it's important to complete these practices every day, because you can't go back to missed days. Think of them like daily vitamins!
Weekly Activities (2 tasks, about 30 minutes each)
Each week, you'll receive two additional activities to complete whenever it works for you. These tasks include:
- Week 1: Learning about psilocybin (mostly reading).
- Week 2: Preparing your mind and body (you'll learn two grounding exercises).
- Week 3: Planning for safety (you'll develop coping strategies and an integration plan).
Accessing DIPP
Log in to the DIPP platform with your unique participant ID to access each day's materials. Your content will align with your dosing schedule to ensure you're fully prepared.
Note: To make the most of DIPP, it's important to complete each day's practice on time, as you won't be able to go back to missed days.
Development of DIPP
DIPP was developed through a systematic, person-centred approach as described in McAlpine et al. (2024b). This process involved qualitative interviews with past psychedelic retreat participants and co-design workshops with individuals preparing for psilocybin experiences. The structure and content of DIPP are grounded in the four-factor model of psychedelic preparedness established by McAlpine et al. (2024a) in their development and validation of the Psychedelic Preparedness Scale (PPS). These four factors – Knowledge-Expectation, Psychophysical-Readiness, Intention-Preparation, and Safety-Planning – form the core modules of DIPP, ensuring a comprehensive approach to psychedelic preparation that is both theoretically sound and practically relevant to users' needs.
The iterative development process, guided by participant feedback and expert consultation, resulted in a 21-day digital intervention that aims to enhance psychedelic preparedness across multiple domains. By incorporating insights from both clinical expertise and lived experience, DIPP represents a novel approach to standardising and optimising preparation for psychedelic experiences in various contexts.
